Taylor Swift won big at the 2024 MTV EMAs, which took place last night at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena, as the star-studded bash celebrated its 30th anniversary.
Scooping four big awards on the night, Swift walked away with Best Artist, Best Video (for Fortnight), Best Live, and Best US Act. Winners for this year’s event were chosen by fans who voted on the EMAs website, excluding Best Video, which was selected by MTV.
Other big winners on the night included Sabrina Carpenter, who won Best Song for Espresso; Benson Boone, who scooped Best New Act; Ariana Grande, who emerged victorious from the Best Pop category; and Tyla (pictured), who won out in the Best Afrobeats category.
Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher was crowned Best Rock Act winner; Imagine Dragons took home the award for Best Alternative Act; and Calvin Harris was announced as winner of Best Electronic Act.
Hip-hop icon Busta Rhymes was honoured on the night with the Global Icon Award, while Pet Shop Boys were recognised as Pop Pioneers by the MTV EMAs.
One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when host Rita Ora paid a moving tribute to the late Liam Payne who passed away last month at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.
Ora, who collaborated with Payne on the pair’s 2018 single For You, said: "I just want to take a moment to remember someone that was very, very dear to us. We lost him recently, and he was a big part of the MTV world and my world, and I think a lot of yours at home and everybody in here tonight.
"Liam Payne was one of the kindest people that I knew. And, you know, there were so many ways that we were talking about honouring him, and I think sometimes just simply speaking is enough.
"He had the biggest heart and was always the first person to offer help in any way that he could.
"He brought so much joy to every room he walked into, and he left such a mark on this world. So, let's just take a moment to remember our friend."
This year’s EMAs also served up a stellar line-up of show-stopping performances, with the likes of Benson Boone, RAYE, Shawn Mendes, Teddy Swims, The Warning, LE SSERAFIM, Peso Pluma, Tyla, Busta Rhymes and Pet Shop Boys all taking to the stage.
