Apple reveals new ‘powerhouse’ HomePod smart speaker

Apple has lifted the lid on HomePod, a new speaker featuring Apple-engineered audio technology and software designed to deliver high-fidelity sound throughout the user’s room.

The new HomePod comes with Siri built in, allowing users to handle everyday tasks — and control your smart home — using just the user’s voice.

A high‑excursion woofer has been engineered to offer deep, rich bass, its powerful motor driving the diaphragm 20mm, while its bass‑EQ mic tunes low frequencies in real time. It comes with an array of five beamforming tweeters around its base. These optimise high frequencies to produce detailed, articulate audio with optimum clarity.

The beamforming tweeters precisely beam direct sound, like primary vocals, into the middle of the room, and reflect ambient sound, like the backup band, off the walls for fully immersive listening. Plus, with Spatial Audio tracks, users will experience the sense of being surrounded in sound.

Meanwhile, with room sensing, HomePod automatically understands its location in a room by using its mics to listen for sound reflections. It tunes sound accordingly, so users can enjoy the best listening experience possible regardless of where it’s placed.

With two speakers, users can create a stereo pair to amplify your music. Just place two HomePod speakers in the same room, and you’ll be asked if you want to pair them up. Get ready for a wider soundstage and even more enveloping audio than that of traditional stereo speakers.

Furthermore, HomePod can be used with Apple TV 4K to enjoy Dolby Atmos audio for a home cinema experience.
