Alice Gasson: Freedom

Manchester-based Alice Gasson has a great vibe about her. After watching her video to the track Freedom, we watched it again, and then again, and then a bit more. We're currently humming it in Headliner HQ, in fact! So we though we'd share it with you. Here it is:

Who is Alice? Well, she's just completed a UK tour with that legend Billy Ocean, and her music is described as a fusion of hip-hop, funk, disco, and neo-soul. We think this track is actually great to chill to, but there are definitely some disco-funk undertones in there which do create a very nice foot-tapping groove.

Alice and her band are all about melody and lyrical crafting - and that shows in Freedom. It's fun, it's catchy, but it's soulful. Bingo.

Manchester Evening News described her as "somewhere between Corinne Bailey Rae and Alicia Keys". You can probably throw a little Lily Allen in there too, especially in terms of tone; and musically, there might even be a hint of Portishead, perhaps. Just a little. But let's not worry about all that - bottom line, we think it's a great little track.

So, this Thursday (November 12), Alice will be releasing this video for Freedom, a track which has been picked out already by BBC Introducing. It's from her Joy Days EP, which was released in August this year at Manchester's Ruby Lounge.

Watch this space for a Headliner interview with Alice - we have a feeling she's worth making the trip up the M6 for.
