Damien Dempsey

With five top-five albums, two sold-out international tours in the last 18 months alone, and a career that now spans a full 18 years, it is safe to say that Damien Dempsey is one of Ireland’s most highly respected musicians.

Damien’s illustrious career began back in 2000 with the release of his debut album, They Don’t Teach You This Shit In School. His smooths tones, and commanding presence as an artist meant it quickly garnered worldwide acclaim.

This was just the beginning, however - with his next 10 albums generating a similar reaction to his first, one of approval and praise. He has also used the past two decades to show the world how talented he is as a performer, and not just a recording artist. Since 2016 alone, he has sold out two Australian tours, played to a sold out Bowery Ballroom in New York City, and played to 4,000 fans at a sold out show in Iveagh Gardens, a performance that attracted his largest Irish audience to date.

Dempsey is now back with his first musical offering of 2018, a collection of collaborations with those who have supported and worked with him throughout his career. It will feature music from Imelda May, Wildwood Kin, and The Dubliners, as well as a whole host of other talented artists.

Dempsey is to perform at the Roundhouse tomorrow (March 17th) with the concert, curated by the artist himself, featuring a selection of talented up-and-coming artists such as Wildwood Kin, Beoga, and Morrissey & Marshall. The evening will also include a DJ set from the ex-Specials brainchild, Jerry Dammers.

His voice, and presence as a performer, have enamoured listeners worldwide, and this does not look to be changing anytime soon. Why not join him on St. Patrick's Day for an insight into the life and mind of one of Ireland’s brightest and best. Highly recommended.
