Women’s Audio Mission (WAM) – an organisation that trains over 2,000 women and girls per year in music production and the recording arts to address the lack of women/GNC people in the audio industry – is bringing its sold out WAMCon Conference to New York at New York University (NYU) Steinhardt and The Cutting Room Studios on October 18th-20th, 2019.

Sponsored by Dolby Laboratories, Spotify, The Recording Academy, Shure, Eventide, Universal Audio, Epidemic Sound and more, WAMCon New York provides hands-on audio and recording arts training and networking for over 100 women and gender non-conforming (GNC) individuals in sound.

WAMCon New York features workshops with industry producers and engineers – in the past featuring four-time Grammy-winning engineer Leslie Ann Jones, Sylvia Massy (Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Simone Torres (Sia, Cardi B), Gloria Kaba (Beyoncé, Kanye West), Jennifer DeCilveo (Andra Day, Beth Ditto), mastering engineers Kim Rosen (Aimee Mann, Bonnie Raitt) and Emily Lazar (Dolly Parton, David Bowie), and podcast producers/engineers Chiquita Paschal (Uncivil, Another Round) and Haley Shaw (Gimlet).

WAMCon, along with the Audio Engineering Society Convention (AES) that starts the Wednesday before, provides five days of audio training and experiences. WAMCon kicks off with a discussion with Leslie Ann Jones and an ‘Engineering Prince’ panel with four of Prince’s engineers who happen to be female: Sylvia Massy, Susan Rogers, Lisa Chamblee, and Peggy McCreary.

“We launched WAMCon in 2017 to bring our award-winning training across the country, connect women and gender non-conforming people to the top pros in the industry, and give them unique access to some of the most iconic audio production spaces in the world,” says WAM executive director, Terri Winston. “We are beyond thrilled to bring WAMCon to NYU and The Cutting Room Studios and we have some super exciting surprise venues that will be announced soon.”

Over the past two years, the demand for WAM’s transformative programs has grown nationally: the organisation has hosted five successful, sold-out conferences in Nashville at Ocean Way and The Tracking Room (2019), Los Angeles at Capitol Studios (2018) and Walt Disney Animation Studios and YouTube Space LA (2019), New York at Jungle City Studios and YouTube Space NY (2018), and Boston at iZotope/PRX Podcast Garage (2017).

At past events, WAMCon has reached over 700 women and has featured Linda Perry (P!nk, Christina Aguilera), Marcella Araica (Missy Elliott, Jay-Z), and many others.

WAMCon New York takes place at New York University, The Cutting Room Studios, and a surprise, to-be-disclosed location in Chelsea on October 18, 19, and 20, 2019.
