ELVTR and Jason Graves announce ‘Music Composition For Games’ online course

ELVTR, a leading platform for live online educational courses that are 100% instructor-driven and designed to give students current practical knowledge within a convenient time frame, is partnering with BAFTA-winning composer Jason Graves to launch ‘Music Composition For Games’, a six-week course for composers aspiring to work in video games.

Renowned for his work on No Rest For The Wicked, Still Wakes The Deep, Call of Duty, The Dark Pictures Anthology, Moss, Tomb Raider, Far Cry Primal, Until Dawn, and the Dead Space trilogy, Graves will provide practical knowledge and instruction on the skills needed to create immersive soundtracks, with real-world lessons in how to build a solid career as a composer in video games.

“We are incredibly excited to work with Jason on this course,” said Roman Peskin, CEO of ELVTR. “His expertise and passion for game music composition are unparalleled. This course is an amazing opportunity for students to learn from one of the best in the industry.”

Students will participate in live, online presentations exploring production techniques, thematic writing, atmospheric textures and interactive music. The six week course consists of 13 90-minute classes spanning more than 26 hours, including ‘office hours’ for questions or advice before each class. There are four practical composition assignments and one final course project. Students are given up to 50% educational discounts on all of Graves' favourite software. Featuring hands-on assignments, real-world case studies, and personal insights from Graves to help master the art of game music, students will gain the tools and knowledge needed to create compelling game music that enhances the gaming experience and opens doors to new career opportunities in this rapidly growing sector.

Throughout the course, students will engage in practical exercises, including creating demo pitches, composing thematic and atmospheric cues, and producing music for live recording. The chance to work on a final project, where a suite of music is composed and synced to a video, allows students to apply techniques from existing game soundtracks. Workshops and guest lectures from industry leaders will provide invaluable real-world context along with networking opportunities.
