Gibson Offers Music Mentorship For Sick Children

Gibson Gives and JoyRx Music (formerly MyMusicRx) – the flagship program of the Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) – are joining forces for a second consecutive year to bring the healing power of music to kids facing cancer and other serious illnesses.

Starting September 1, the talented young Gibson Generation Group musicians, aka Gibson G3 will provide virtual music mentorship for the Children’s Cancer Association which serves children by sharing guitar lessons, and giving hospitalised kids the chance to learn how to play an instrument.

The performances and guitar lessons will be released throughout the year and can be viewed for free at JoyRxMusic.org/Gibson.

September marks Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and from September 1 through September 22, Gibson and JoyRx Music will release performances from eight-time Grammy winner Ziggy Marley (pictured below), Maná guitarist Sergio Vallín, and blues-rock, singer-songwriter-guitarist Emily Wolfe.

To raise additional funds for JoyRx Music, fans will be able to enter to win one of six Gibson, Epiphone and Kramer guitars and each winner will also receive a year-long subscription to the all-new Gibson App for interactive guitar lessons.

The JoyRx Music guitar giveaway is donated by the philanthropic arm of Gibson, including Gibson Gives, Epiphone Empowered, and Kramer Kares.

All proceeds will directly support JoyRx Music’s mission to empower hospitalised kids and teens across the nation to relieve their stress, anxiety, and perception of pain through tailored experiences with JoyRx Music’s trained staff. “Joy often lies dormant in children experiencing serious illness,” says Danielle York, CEO, Children’s Cancer Association. “If we can ensure kids are enveloped in joy through the most difficult moments of their lives, we can help positively impact their treatment experience. Our vision is to make JoyRx Music accessible to kids wherever they are, whether they are in hospital or not. We are so grateful to Gibson Gives, the Gibson G3 youth artists, Ziggy Marley, Sergio Vallín, and Emily Wolfe for supporting our program and helping us find new and exciting ways to virtually connect young patients with the healing power of music.”

“Gibson Gives is excited to engage our Gibson G3 artists to bring both music education and healing to kids,” adds Dendy Jarrett, executive director, Gibson Gives. “We’re providing a life skill and also a distraction from the doctors, discomfort and pain. Music can be the best medicine! Helping JoyRx Music goes a long way in fulfilling the mission of Gibson Gives.”
