Johnnie Walker Picks RØDECaster Pro To Record BBC Radio 2 Show

Radio veteran Johnnie Walker is using the RØDE RØDECaster Pro to record his weekly BBC Radio 2 show Sounds of the 70s from his home in Dorset.

When the arrival of COVID-19 meant that Walker had to start recording the programme remotely, he got in touch with Solid State Sound in Warminster, who recommended the all-in-one podcast production studio.

Hosted by the legendary broadcaster since 2009, Sounds of the 70s shares over 14 million weekly BBC Radio 2 listeners on FM, DAB and the BBC Sounds app.

Walker co-presents with his wife Tiggy Walker from an ad-hoc studio in their home, and following successful tests, their shows recorded on the RØDECaster Pro were nationally broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on September 6th 2020.

The RØDECaster Pro is designed to let users create professional standard recordings in non-professional environments with the bare minimum of technical knowledge.

The system allows for up to four in-studio guests to record professional, Aphex DSP-enhanced audio with a single button push.

Remote guests are recorded via Bluetooth on mobile or VOIP applications over USB, with mix-minus for echo cancellation.

“It’s an amazing piece of kit, that does everything you need so easily and efficiently,” said Walker of his new RØDECaster Pro.

“I especially like the Aphex add-ons and the eight buttons for audio jingles, the on-board record facility to a MicroSD card and the ability to record some of my interviews via mobile phone,” he added. “Transfer to my Macbook for uploading works seamlessly and using music from my laptop into the RØDECaster Pro works so well.

“It’s a major upgrade in terms of its ease-of-use and the superb audio quality of its recordings compared with my previous mixer. I would absolutely recommend the RØDECaster Pro to anyone making podcasts or broadcast radio shows.”
