Inside Meyer Sound’s new Kaleidescape partnership

John McMahon, senior vice president at US pro audio giant Meyer Sound, has spoken to Headliner about the company’s new collaboration with Kaleidescape, an industry leader in the home cinema market.

As part of the new arrangement, when customers purchase a Kaleidescape Terra movie server and Strato C movie player with any three-channel or more Meyer Sound Bluehorn System, Ultra Reflex, or Acheron system, Kaleidescape will provide free white-glove, on-site system commissioning of its systems.

This process is designed to ensure that a home cinema system is precisely configured to deliver a true immersive movie experience.

“Our partnership with Kaleidescape underscores our commitment to deliver the finest sonic experience in the premium home cinema market,” said McMahon

“Like Meyer Sound, Kaleidescape is dedicated to providing unrivaled full-fidelity immersive entertainment. Integrating our systems sets the stage for a truly stunning luxury home cinema experience.”

“As the gold standard of sonic performance, Meyer Sound is renowned for its benchmark-defining professional, commercial, and residential sound systems,” added Kaleidescape CEO Tayloe Stansbury. “Combining Kaleidescape’s unparalleled, reference-quality movie ecosystem with Meyer Sound’s finest loudspeaker systems ensures customers an experience previously found only in the finest of premium commercial cinemas.”

Here, McMahon discusses this latest collaboration and the company’s continued expansion into the home audio market…

We've seen a big uptick in the residential space. John McMahon, SVP, Meyer Sound

How did this partnership come about?

We've been a Kaleidescape customer for quite some time; we've used Kaleidescape products internally for more than a decade for playback in our Pearson Theatre and other spaces. They were the only provider that offered a system that delivered lossless audio playback, and that's obviously really important to us.

Early this year, they started solidifying their position as the only provider of this kind of technology in the residential space. Whenever they would speak with a studio, people kept telling them to talk to Meyer Sound. So, they reached out to see if we would be interested in doing a marketing partnership with them to get the word out about this pristine-quality content that would ideally go together with Meyer Sound products.

How does the partnership serve Meyer Sound’s strategy to push further into the home audio market?

We've seen a big uptick — certainly through the pandemic, but even prior to that — in the popularity of our products in the residential space. It's something that we've seen as a bright spot for us, and Kaleidescape has decades of experience in the space, so we felt that this partnership would give us exposure to a healthy network of Kaleidescape dealers and pull us closer into that market.

What makes Kaleidescape the ideal partner for Meyer Sound’s home audio expansion?

Mostly, it’s their commitment to delivering the utmost in content quality. They’ve worked out deals with the major studios to get that high-quality content. They offer a healthy catalogue of motion pictures and concert movies that you can download from their site and experience in full bandwidth.

So much content now is being authored on Meyer Sound systems. With a delivery system that brings lossless, full-dynamic range, full-quality content to the home consumer, it’s a natural fit to have a Meyer Sound system in place.

What are the mutual benefits for both parties?

I think for Kaleidescape, the association with Meyer Sound brings the quality endorsement to the Kaleidescape platform — as in, if you're going to invest in a Meyer Sound system for your home, you really should have Kaleidescape to deliver top-quality content.

For us, Kaleidescape has a pretty robust install base. It’s giving us opportunities to put Meyer Sound in front of Kaleidescape customers who are looking to up their game, so to speak, in terms of sound quality in the home theatre experience. Ultimately, it just seemed like a natural fit: when you've got the two best-in-class companies collaborating, we get the best result for the customer.
