Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) to receive Outstanding Contribution To UK Music MPG Award

The Music Producers Guild will honour DJ and producer Norman Cook with the ‘PPL Present The MPG Award For Outstanding Contribution To UK Music’ award at the next MPG Awards.

This is a gifted award by the MPG Awards Committee and is presented to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the music industry. Previous winners include FKA Twigs, Susan Rogers, Joan Armatrading, Fraser T Smith, Hugh Padgham, Youth, Paul Epworth and George Martin.

Norman is one of the UK’s most sought-after DJs and is a legendary producer in the world of electronic dance music. Beginning his early days in the indie rock band The Housemartins, this evolved into his ground-breaking use of sampling with Beats International.

Under his alias Fatboy Slim, Norman has produced huge crossover hits with his trademarked party starting beats and infectious energy, including global anthems Praise You and Right Here, Right Now.

Anu Pillai, Executive Director of The MPG commented: "We are immensely proud to present Norman Cook, widely celebrated as Fatboy Slim, with our Outstanding Contribution to UK Music Award. Norman's pioneering use of sampling has transformed our musical landscape, bridging boundaries and shaping whole new genres.

“Over four remarkable decades, he has remixed hundreds of acts with many of those iconic remixes becoming the definitive and best loved versions. With his label Southern Fried, Norman has also provided a vital home for both emerging and established producers. We’re thrilled to welcome Norman to the awards night and join us in celebrating his extraordinary achievements. This will be a night to honour not only his incredible legacy but also the lasting impact he continues to have on the UK’s musical evolution."

Peter Leathem OBE, CEO of PPL, added: "We are delighted to honour Fatboy Slim with the Outstanding Contribution to UK Music Award at the MPG Awards 2025. His pioneering work has left an indelible mark on the music industry, influencing generations of artists and pushing the boundaries of electronic music. Fatboy Slim’s unique ability to connect with audiences worldwide, while staying true to his British roots, makes him a truly deserving recipient. We are proud to celebrate his remarkable contributions and enduring legacy."

Nominations for the 2025 awards are now open. Anyone can submit a nomination through the MPG website, including the candidate themselves.

All nominations are then considered to go through to the next round. Full MPG members then vote on the nominees to be added to the shortlist. The final process involves a panel of industry judges who choose the winners.

This announcement comes before the full 2025 MPG Award winners are revealed on 24th April at The Troxy, London E1 0HX. Tickets are on-sale now.
