Roland has announced the launch of its new P-6 Creative Sampler, marking the latest addition to its AIRA Compact range of portable instruments.
The P-6 packs Roland sampling technology into a pocket-size gadget with granular sound design options and a powerful sequencer. Equipped with an onboard mic, intuitive controls, a USB-C audio/MIDI interface, and a selection of hands-on MFX, the P-6 is designed to deliver optimum sampling and performance capabilities on the go.
The P-6 is suitable for any level of music creator, from beginner to pro. Top-level tactile controls and pads encourage jamming and sound tweaking the moment the user powers up. And when they’re ready, they can go deeper with advanced features for cutting-edge sonic manipulation and performance.
Whether using the built-in mic, analogue inputs, or a smartphone via USB-C, the P-6 is ready to sample at a moment’s notice. After capturing sounds, users can chop up longer samples for triggering from the onboard keyboard or combine multiple sounds with Step Sampling and resampling features. There’s also a curated selection of hands-on MFX, including Vinyl Simulator, DJFX Looper, Stopper, Lo-fi, Scatter, Phaser, Resonator, and more.
The sampling tools in the P-6 unlock a raft of microscopic sound design. Users can transform tiny moments into sonic landscapes with the ability to detune samples, adjust the grain shape, play with head position, head speed, spread, and more.
The P-6 also offers deep sequencing features designed to push the boundaries of music programming. Users can play with 64-step patterns powered by sequencing elements like motion recording, probability, micro-timing, off-grid sequencing, and sub steps. With the Step Loop function, it’s possible to manipulate playback in real time for creative improvs and instant stutter effects.
The P-6 SampleTool software for macOS and Windows is a handy companion for editing and transferring samples between a computer and the P-6. Users can clean up clicks with snap to zero, truncate to remove unwanted sections, normalize to standardize audio levels, and use downsampling for gritty, lo-fi sound creation.
The growing lineup of AIRA Compact instruments allows users to jam, perform, and develop ideas on the go with tactile controls and numerous intuitive music tools. Along with the new P-6 Creative Sampler, the current lineup includes the S-1 Tweak Synth, T-8 Beat Machine, J-6 Chord Synthesizer, and E-4 Voice Tweaker.
