For those of you who might not be aware, Spitfire is a serious force in the world of sample libraries and virtual instruments, renowned for their dedication to the art of recording and musicality; many of the British firm's instrument libraries have involved collaborations with epic creatives such as Hans Zimmer and Ólafur Arnalds, and all of which offer phenomenally detailed recordings used by composers and music producers alike. From full orchestras to synthesisers, pianos and percussion, Spitfire has recorded, in depth, the best players and instruments in the world.
LABS is a new series of tools that retain this dedication to quality, but altogether remove the barrier to entry, offering a simplistic solution for music makers, at no cost.
Redesigned from the ground up, Spitfire has obsessed over every detail, and now the first two LABS libraries are ready to go: Soft Piano and a new Strings library.
Check out the Soft Piano trailer below. Recorded at Air Edel Studios, this sound has become a favourite of music makers across the globe. The soft tone is achieved by placing a thin strip of felt between the hammers and the strings.
Now check out the Strings trailer. Strings was recorded at Spitfire's HQ by wise-beyond-his-years, Harry Wilson, using 14 of London's finest strings players. This ensemble was captured using a wide range of microphones including a Vintage BBC AXB1, and it sounds epic.
And better still, new LABS libraries will be released each month, and serve as the sonic exploration arm of Spitfire Audio. Expect key traditional instruments, alongside experiments discovered along the way; made by musicians in London for anyone, anywhere.
It remains Spitfire’s ethos to use live performances where possible, but when up against time and budget, Spitfire is the next best thing. By paying the players and collaborators royalties, Spitfire Audio helps sustain an incredible part of our musical heritage at the same time as championing innovation within it.
