The Sandbox & Warner Music announce virtual release party for Spinnin’ Records DJ contest

The Sandbox – a decentralised gaming virtual world and subsidiary of Animoca Brands – has announced a collaboration with Warner Music Group to hold the official release party in The Sandbox for Spinnin’ Records’ World’s Biggest Demo Drop (WBDD).

The DJ talent contest organised by dance-label Spinnin’ Records has been launching new artists for over two decades. The party starts on 26 January 2023 and runs through February 8 2023.

Spinnin’ Records’ WBDD has been a DJ annual talent contest for over 20 years. For the first time, tracks from this year’s winners will not only be released on Spinnin’ Records but will also become NFT products with LGND Music.

The event’s official release party, held for the first time online in The Sandbox, will feature music from each of the winning DJs and a virtual appearance by each DJ as a non-player character (NPC) that players can interact with.

In the WBDD contest, new DJ talents from around the world are invited to submit their best demos for the opportunity to win an official Spinnin’ Records or Musical Freedom release.

This year, DJ Tiësto is an official jury member, while the Dutch DJ, record producer, musician and remixer Mike Williams will serve as the event’s official ambassador.

"Music, innovation and nurturing talent have always been the cornerstones of Spinnin' Records,” commented Lesley Quist, head of design, and Steven de Graaf, commercial director.

“Being able to combine these facets into one partnership makes for a perfect and authentic scenario for our music to thrive and undiscovered talent to be heard. We’re excited for people to discover and engage with our collaboration with LGND music, a leader in web3 music strategies, and our largest World's Biggest Demo Drop ever.”

This year’s competition was launched at Amsterdam Dance Event and over 2,000 demos from all around the world have been submitted.

Part virtual real estate, part amusement park, The Sandbox fully embraces the idea of the metaverse as a continuous shared digital space. Over 400 partners have joined The Sandbox alongside Warner Music Group, including Ubisoft, The Rabbids, Tony Hawk, Gucci Vault, The Walking Dead, Snoop Dogg, Adidas, Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Richie Hawtin, The Smurfs, Care Bears, Atari, ZEPETO and CryptoKitties.
